Area Attractions |

Tall cedars, firs and maples grace the forested acreage. A path winds through the forest to the neighboring elementary school - with a ball diamond, soccer field, kids jungle gym, and outdoor basketball court. In the other direction, our path joins a network of paths and undeveloped road right-of-ways to Tribune Bay Provincial Park.
The front yard is fenced, there's an outdoor badminton court, horseshoe pitch, and forest to explore. The property is blessed with good water - there is a deep well, and storage reservoir - but as with other island land owners we do request you use our island water resources wisely! Hornby is designated as a water conservation area.
On Hornby Island there aren't any poisonous snakes or insects, no predatory animals. You won't see any bears or cougars here. Our children play outside safely.
We enjoy our wild life by: viewing the whales when they swim past, watching the deer peacefully graze in our yards, tracking the graceful eagles as they soar overhead, and by going to the local Pub for a pint & gazing out the windows!
The island Farmer's Market (held Wednesdays and Saturdays) is a three minute walk. The medical clinic (doctor and physiotherapist), dentist and public library are within a few blocks. The big Co-op Store & Ringside Market (groceries, hardware, liquor, gas, restaurants, and retail stores) is about 1/2 mile. Our house is truly "at the center of it all!"
Beachcombing - most of the island's shores are accessible, with an abundance of shells, intertidal life and pretty rocks. Several areas have petroglyphs (ancient Native carvings) and others have fossils (sharks teeth, shells, even dinosaur bones have been found).
Cycling - Mountain bikes can be rented at a shop about 1/2 mile from the house.
Swimming - there is a quick trail through the forest to Tribune Bay Provincial Park, home of our favorite beach. Swimming, suntanning, beach volleyball, skim boards for the kids, and just hanging out.
Sunset Gazing - In the evening, Grassy Point, on the east side of the island is only a minute and a half drive. The public access extends to the neighbourhood park on the Point. It's one of our favourite sunset & beachwalk places.
Kayaks - The local kayak company rents boats, gives lessons and offer guided tours. They meet you at various island beaches, depending on the weather and direction of winds. Again, everything is close from our home, geographically in the hub of the island.
Horse back riding - On the neighbouring acreage, across Central Road, horses are rented.
Movies, concerts, dances, art shows, and the Hornby Festival are held at the Community Hall - only a city block away.
Tennis, roller blading, baseball and dances at Joe King Park - Located at 3851 Central Road, we're at 4583.
Music Nights, Pizza and the Barefoot Barbeque - all at the Cardboard House Bakery located at 2205 Central Road.
Drinking, Dancing, Dining, Beach Volleyball & Tennis - at Hornby Island Resort, Home of the Thatch marine Pub and the waterfront Wheelhouse Restaurant, eat in or take-out. To get there it's a quick 5 minute drive.
Studio and Farm tours - from pottery to felting, to an Old Time Farm, to the Old Rose Nursery, to roadside flower stands. The commerce on the island is all accessible. A great way to spend any overcast days.
Fishing or sightseeing charters can be booked with Inter Island Charters. View the sea lions, visit the light house, check out the plethora of bird-life or just enjoy the scenery.
Live off the land by digging your own clams, picking fresh oysters, or help yourself to the many roadside blackberries. Or if you want to cheat a little, stock up at the SeaFood Shop at Buckley Bay (the terminal for the ferry to Denman Island) for sushi, fresh crab or other seafood choices. |

The house is totally private. A large deck crosses the front of the house, overlooking the garden and pond. Help yourself to the plums, apples, blueberries, raspberries, fresh herbs, huckleberries, blackberries or filbert nuts if you're here at harvest time. Sit in comfortable custom made adirondack chairs and listen to the birds sing.
